JJ Stucco and Stone Inc. have been cited by OSHA for three willful and three repeat safety violations. The inspection by OSHA was brought up on a referral by the Pennsylvania Department of Licenses and Inspections due to an imminent threat to worker safety and health. Upon the investigation, it was determined that the workers of JJ Stucco and Stone Inc. were exposed to fall hazards while performing work at a residential site. These penalties totaled $235,700.
According to an OSHA Director in Philadelphia, JJ Stucco and Stone Inc. were placed on the Severe Violator Enforcement Program in 2011 for multiple violations. The company was refusing to provide proper fall protection, which in turn was putting employees lives at risk. Falls are the most common cause of death in the construction industry and protecting workers from this is a priority.
JJ Stucco and Stone Inc. failed to use scaffolding with adequate bracing to prevent collapse or tipping or to provide employees with fall protection up to 32 feet. Some of the repeat violations included scaffold hazards, lack of training for fall dangers and failure to provide and implement a hazard communication program.
