The Need for the Art of Safety
Education
This workbook and accompanying
resources, titled the Art
of Safety Education was
developed by Milton Jacobs, Certified Safety
Professional, because of the high number of requests
from fellow
safety professionals, as well as others, (Human
Resource professionals, executive level professionals)
for tips
and ideas on providing effective safety
presentations in the workplace.
After many years of offering coaching help and
assistance on the topic, Milton
took a closer
look at the current OSHA (Occupational Safety and
Health) and related guidance available for safety
training.
It was determined that OSHA has somewhere near
100 standards (laws) that require "safety
training".
However, there is no standard and very little guidance
offered on techniques or methods that can be used
to ensure that the training delivered is effective.
Our
safety education today has to be unique, as our
audiences are changing. With the population
of the
United States reaching the 300 million mark,
the workforce is changing in terms of demographics,
age, nationality,
gender and workplace size and type (i.e. small
service businesses which may operate in a home).
The art of
safety education offers a unique way of delivering
safety and health education.
