Q: Why is Safety With A SmileSM different than other processes we hear of?
A: Safety With A SmileSM combines communication, recognition, education as well as traditional and nontraditional safety techniques and practices. Most safety protocols, programs or concepts are traditional (OSHA compliance based).
Q: Why should we hire you to coach our people when we have safety professionals on staff?
A: There is a wise biblical expression that goes: You can never be a prophet in your own land. When you apply this to safety, it means that your employees are more likely to listen to the safety expert from the outside versus the internal safety professional. This is a common phenomenon within families as well as organizations. When you hire Safety Solution Consultants, Inc., your message will have a larger impact and more buy-in from your employees. Not to mention that we have specialized coaching tools that we use, such as perception surveys that have been proven effective.
Q: We have a properly functioning safety team / organization. Why do we need your Safety With A SmileSM system?
A: You may have a great safety team, but you still need a coach. Safety Solution Consultants, Inc. will be that coach for you. Coaching is about helping each member of the team – even the leaders –maximize their potential. If you look at some of the most successful people in any sporting event or in business, they all have coaches and mentors who they look to for guidance. Safety is no different. Milton and his team can help coach your leaders, who then in turn help the teams do a better job of achieving major safety goals.
Q: You indicate that all organizations need a safety strategy. Why is that?
A: All successful organizations have clearly defined strategies for sales, marketing, business development, etc. Safety should be no exception. Your company needs to have a defined safety strategy that can be put into place, one that can be flexible enough to adapt to growth and other influences. A successful safety strategy is site- or customer-specific, and it is simple. A complicated safety strategy won’t accomplish anything if it cannot be understood. Safety Solution Consultants, Inc. excels in providing both customized and simplified safety strategies.
Q: You indicate that you use nontraditional means to practice Safety With A SmileSM. Can you give me an example of this?
A: When most people think of safety, they think of OSHA compliance. That is a traditional means of practicing safety. When we say “nontraditional”, it means thinking of things mindfully. Mindful safety is a more holistic way of approaching safety. Our nontraditional approach also provides educational programs and skills, versus strictly compliance-based training.
Q: I see that you have a number of other concepts such as Home Meets Work™, Accidents Happen… To Be Preventable™, etc. Are these all the same as Safety With A SmileSM?
A: All of our safety concepts build upon one another. Accidents Happen…To Be Preventable!® is a mindset. When you start thinking that accidents don’t just happen, the outcomes change to reflect the positive thinking. Our Home Meets WorkR strategy is a way of looking at safety that deals with the workplace, but also gets people thinking about safety both on and off the job. To quote Aristotle, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Our holistic approach to safety is reflected in all of our safety concepts.
Q: Is the Safety With A SmileSM program for sale?
A: The Safety With A SmileSM program is not for sale, however, Safety Solution Consultants, Inc. can provide a personalized workshop for your company on how to utilize the Safety With A SmileSM program in your workplace. We can establish specific tools based on an initial assessment of your process and business. It all starts with a discussion between you and Milton Jacobs about your company’s objectives, and an evaluation of the ways that our services can be of value to your company.
Q: How was education different from training?
A: Education deals with why we do certain things and training deals with how-to. Often times people know how-to, but they don’t know why. Education is extremely powerful for employees because it gets them thinking about what they’re doing and the reason they’re doing it.
Q: Risk management has been around a long time. Why is it different with the Safety With A SmileSM system?
A: Most risk management programs deal with creating a job-related matrix based on high-medium-low risks, which though good, can be time consuming. We have simplified the process into an easy-to-use format to help save time.
Q: Does smiling have anything to do with the concept?
A: It certainly does. Smiling changes the attitude of a person right away. Have you ever walked into a room with someone who is glum or down? That sets a tone. Are you willing to open up to that person, or do you prefer to not engage them at all? When you approach things with smile, it changes the mood and gets people receptive to talking and can break down communication barriers. Smiling is a non-verbal form of communication which is a key tenet with Safety With A SmileSM.
